It was a dogpile kind of a night :) Had a great set with the GBMC band, the kind of set where mics cutting out and amps shorting out only added to the fun of the set. Then we all stuck around and had a blast with our friends from Church of Sun. Not bad for a tuesday night.

Best Version of Rearviewmirror ever

Been compiling my favorite Pearl Jam songs.  Trying to create a personal top Ten.
While this would be quite an undertaking I was thinking about creating my favorite individual performances.
Maybe I'll do it, maybe not.  But I just heard this version of Rearviewmirror and this would most likelly make the list.

Red Car Brewery Friday July 23rd

I'll be playing this Friday with Danny Hamilton at the Red Car Brewery in Torrance 7-10.

I'll be joining him for a few acoustic covers of songs by: Pearl Jam, Oasis, Eddie Vedder ( not the same as PearlJam, shut up), Jason Mraz, Sublime, Beatles, more?...

Late night Drunken requests are not only accepted they are encouraged!

There might even be another attempted webcast but those have a habit of not working out.  Crossing my fingers again this time.

Green Eggs and Hamilton

So I volunteered Danny and I to play a set at Sidney's School.  We learned a 1/2 hour of acoustic rockin kids songs.  It was pajama day at the school so we got to pick out some matching PJ's for the set.

Immortality -Danny Hamilton Garage Sessions

When Danny and I started to make a list of songs we wanted to cover together I separated them into three categories.  Songs I already know - Songs that would be fairly easy to learn - and songs I thought would be super hard and we should learn them in the future sometime.  Immortality was one of those hard songs.  I found a tab of Pearl Jams Benaroya hall performance and it was broken down beautifully.  It inspired me to take the song apart and figure out how to arrange it in an easy enough format for us to play.  I love how it turned out and its a song that just keeps getting better the more and more we play it.  This has turned into one of my go to songs to play whenever I pick up a guitar.

Pink Floyd Cover (Kind Of) - DANNY HAMILTON GARAGE SESSIONS

So my only complaint when it comes to Danny and his Garage Sessions is that sometimes he gets too excited and uploads songs a little prematurly in my opinion :)

This was our third or fourth try on Pink Floyds "wish you were here" and there are some obvious timing issues we are still working out and I had only half learned the solos on top of that.

When we play this one live now its 10 times better.  Hopefully I can find a recording of that to put up here.

Society - DANNY HAMILTON GARAGE SESSIONS

Danny and I worked together at Howe for awhile and we bonded over our a mutual obsession with Pearl Jam.  I had guitars up in my office but for the longest time Danny thought they were just decorations.  Once we got that sorted out we set up a date to jam together and we had a fun little time bouncing pearl jam songs off of each other.

Shortly after that Eddie Vedder did the Into the Wild soundtrack.  Danny gave me a copy and told me to check out the track society.  I loved the album.  Even if Danny hadn't told me to pay attention to Society I would of been able to pick it out as his favorite song.  The lyrics fit his character and the song fits his style.

Danny asked me to join him in recording society for one of his "Garage Sessions".  Since then this song has gone on to be the most viewed Society Cover on You Tube and Danny's most popular Garage Session video  with over 50,000 views.

I've joined Danny onstage for this one quite a few times over the years and its always a great one to play.

Check out Danny Hamiltons Site for his upcoming shows.

Shit for Brains

The second band I was in was called Shit for Brains, or SFB.  Punk Rock obviously.  SFB was an already functioning band that I joined becuase they needed a guitarist.  At my first practice with them I found out they already had some recording time booked and that I'd need to learn all of their songs in 3 weeks.  I did, it was fun, then we played one show at the Dollhut.  Everything was going well when the 2 guys that started the band said they wanted to quit and start a new band, a band that played the kind of music they were into.  I never figured out how 2 guys started a band and then played a music genre they didn't like.  Oh Well.

Here's a few songs from that brief stint with them:

and a Flyer from my only Gig with them:
